February 2, 2022
The Canadian Bar Association’s Competition Law and Foreign Investment Review Section’s Corporate Counsel and Compliance Committee is hosting an interesting new online webinar on February 3, 2022 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. ET entitled “Competition Compliance in the Digital World: Algorithms, AI and Emerging Technologies”.
Webinar Overview
Companies are increasingly using emerging technologies to gain a competitive advantage over speed, knowledge and strategy. There is however a danger that the use of emerging tech can raise competition law risks. For example, algorithms may give rise to collusive or otherwise anti-competitive behaviour, even if they interact without human interference. Using real world examples, the panel will discuss risks related to price and non-price technology from academic, legal and operational perspectives. The panel will also explore the intersection of competition law compliance risks with other fields, such as privacy and IP. Finally, the panel will explore how businesses can mitigate their risks by leveraging emerging tech.
Moderator and Speakers
The moderator for this seminar will be Majid Charania, Director of Compliance of Canada’s Competition Bureau.
The speakers will be: Anita Banicevic (Partner, Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg), Garry Manning, SVP and GM, physIQ and Daniel Sokol (Professor of Law, USC Gould School of Law).
